The history of the financial planning profession actually began in an airport. The year was 1969, and a small group of financial services professionals had gathered headed by Loren Dunton in Chicago to talk about how to help Americans take better control of their financial lives and outlined the first steps to further the idea that people could benefit from a profession that integrated knowledge and practices across the various areas of the financial services industry.
